AEM and the AMETEK Foundation: Charitable giving to the Scouting Association

Two and a half years ago I joined the AEM Limited team in the position of Human Resources Manager. As someone who focuses on recruiting new employees and investing in the growth of our existing employees, I know how important company culture is to attract and retain talent. More and more, people are searching for opportunities to make a positive impact in the world. Whether you find those opportunities in your career or in activities outside of work, we all understand how it can bring a renewed sense of purpose to your day. While some companies only talk about giving back, AMETEK truly fosters a culture of volunteering and charitable giving to improve the communities where we live and work.

AEM has the best of both worlds in the fact that it operates as a local, mid-sized UK business but also benefits from being part of the global and financially stable company, AMETEK. As an AMETEK business, AEM has access to the AMETEK Foundation, which is the charitable giving arm of AMETEK, Inc. established in 1960. The foundation’s mission is to empower AMETEK colleagues making a positive impact in their local communities, with a focus on health and welfare, civic and social service programmes, and education. AMETEK employees can request funds for organisations that align with the foundation’s mission, and most recently the AMETEK Foundation made a generous donation to the Scouting organisation where I actively volunteer.

Like many parents, I find myself getting involved in activities that align with my children’s interests.

Three years ago, I started volunteering with my son’s Scouting Association to ensure he and his friends could attend educational camping trips with the necessary adult to young person ratio. Fast forward to today, and I now support both the 2nd St Neots Cubs and Scouts packs as a Scout Section Assistant, which allows me to create new memories with both my son and my daughter.

I’ve seen how the Scouting Association has created new experiences, educational opportunities, and friendships for my children and for so many other families in our community. With the AMETEK Foundation funds, I’m grateful for the opportunity to take our Scouts on a trip to the Switzerland Kandersteg International Scout Centre to learn, develop, and have fun.

Although Scouting is focused on the education and development of young people, I’ve found that I’ve developed from them as well. I’ve learned about the communication styles of this younger generation and witnessed how they navigate and perceive things differently in the world. I’ve had opportunities to do things that I wouldn’t otherwise have done – things like air rifle shooting, axe throwing, kayaking, and making campfires. These experiences have also helped me to continue improving as a leader within AEM, working with colleagues of all backgrounds and across generations.

I’m fortunate to have my passion for volunteering not only recognised in my career, but to work for a company that enables me to give back even more. I believe that the Scouting Association and AMETEK share common values: openness to all, empowering people to do their best, and investing in our personal development.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to join a company that strives to make the world a better place, whether by solving our customer’s aviation challenges or giving back to our local communities, consider a career with AEM.
